VON CRAMM DELIGHTS BRISBANE
DEFEATS MCGRATH IN
STRAIGHT SETS
GERMAN'S PRAISE FOR COURTS
Sydney, December 23. RECORD crowds attended Milton Courts (Bris- bane), to witness the international matches be- tween J. Crawford and V. B. McGrath, of Australia, and the visiting German, G. von Cramm and H. Henkel.
The last doubles rubber was” unfinished. A conference was held to determine the winner of the series, Australia was declared the winner at the score of 3 rubbers 9 sets 93 games to 2 rubbers 8 sets 95 games.
The Germans declare that the Milton courts are among the DOUBLE most perfect they have played on. Very high praise indeed.
Von Cramm was highly delighted with his play in Brisbane, shortly after arrival in Sydney he told me he expected to almost be at his best for the matches against Bromwich and Quist.

Dr. Marshall, famous Scottish foot baller, has not yet taken advantage of his permit to play for West Ham with- out payment.
McGrath was greatly troubled by von Cramm's fast first service, while the German's severe high kicking second delivery frequently brought short defensive retuns, or errors from the Australian's quet, as he tried to force the pace..
Such a high standard of play with such little practice could hardly con-saw the Australian streak away to tinue. J. Minter, the Balmain colt, set figures against Manly not likely to be eclipsed. He got his century in 34 minutes, and 141 In an hour and ten minutes!
Going in to bat on the first Satur- day at 5.46, he had twelve minutes and made 27 before stumps were drawn. Going in again at 2.1 on Saturday fast, he finished at 2.59. His first 50 were made in 18 min- utes and the second 50 in 14 min- utes.
Minter's scoring strokes were: 1 1 1-144 13 12 11 2 4 4 14 4 4 4 4 4 44.45 4 1 2 11 6 4 4141114 12 411111·2 2·4:1 1 1 2 4 1 8.
CONSECUTIVE STROKES
Five of the fours were made in consecutive strokes in one over off Carr-Boyd. For these facts I am indebted to the Balmain scorer, Mr. G. Mennie.
Minter was very successful in the interstate junior carnival last sea- son. Coming into the Balmain first eleven half-way through the cam- paign, his best innings were 53, 56 and 74.
Prior to Saturday last he had not Man- nicked up his best form. But the Village bowling (W. Gagie absent)
