THE Canadian Chinese Club made sure of third place in the Softball League when they de- feated the HK. Baseball Club in their last encoun- ter of the season yesterday, by the large margin of 12 runs to 3.

The Baseballers again had a few men short and two non-mem- bers of the Club were admitted to augment the side. Hickman, the newest member of the Baseball Club, made the best showing since his appearance on the diamond, and with consistent practice will be a valuable player with his powerful swing.

In the second game of their "double-header," the Baseballers just managed to defeat the Central Britishers by 14 runs to 11.] This is the first time in the Colony that a League game has been played under official Spalding's rules, with 60 foot bases, etc.

CANADA MAY PLAY IN INTERNATIONAL SERIES

́ (By "SHORTSTOP”) On the Kowloon Football Club ground, on Saturday afternoon, the Softball nine from the Empress of of Japan, which is tied up at dock at present, defeated the local Filipino contingent by the over... whelming score of (about) 40 runs, to 6!

The Empresa boys led by lanky "Slim" Black, of the Stewards De- partment, caught for the victors in a masterful manner, and it could bé easily seen that he knew his baseball. The Canadian boys' took the lead from the start and never let it out of their sight.

Emil Porter, who is manager-in- chief of the Filipino team, in the International Softball Series, led the boys from the Islands, but he didn't have a chance with their op- ponents.

The ships' boys have always play-, ed

to softball according official rules, while the local lads have

the only played what

Chinese vernacular press calls, “outdoor in- door baseball," which is more truth than poetry.

In connection with the Inter- national Series, there is a matter with which the Committee of the local League might take up, and that is that Canada should have a chance at the Shield. It might not be too-late even at this date to allow for an extra entry.
