RECREIO
SWAMPED BY K. TONG
SILVAS PLAY WELL
BUT KO AND LEE BRILLIANT
(By “ADREM”)
Kowloon Tong, introducing two new players into their team, completely reversed the result of their first game with Recreio in the Junior Badmin- ton League, and emerged vic- torious last night, in the re- turn fixture by the comfort- able score of 7 sets to 2.
The only Recreio pair that ever looked at all impressive were C. N. da Silva and J. N. da Silva, who
played very well to win the only
two games credited to their side. The former was in dazzling form while his partner, although ap pearing innocuous, was far more effective than first impressions led one to believe.

F.A. CUP REPLAYS
London, To-day.
All but one of the outstanding F. A. Cup third round ties were finally settled to-day, Barnsley, Liverpool, Swindon, Manchester City, and Luton all qualifying for the fourth round in accordance with expecta- tions.
Crystal Palace, however, put up a gallant fight at Liverpool. At the end of the normal 90 minutes play they were still holding the Division side-to a 1-1 draw-but

REVISED DRAW

By the end of the week Badcock had scored 221 runs for two 1 dismissals, S. Barnes 390 for two, and A. L. Hassett 176 for two. 1The acid tests are coming to these young ones and others. The tes- 1 timonial match did not throw any glowing light on the partner to 1 be chosen to open with J. H. Fingleton in England. W. A. Brown 1 and his mate began so quietly that the reasons why so many cric- 1| keters could not see any wisdom in 1934 in selecting both W. M. Woodfull and J. H. Fingleton in the Australian team, stands good to-day.
The real feature of the match was the devastating display of R. E. Lee and F. S. Ko, who both combined brilliant stroking with intelligent attacking methods which carried them to victory even

When Alick Bannerman opened he frequently had H. H. Massie, P. S. McDonnell or Jack Lyons, the hard-hitting partner at the other Fend. If Australia desires to play the Tests to a finish in four days the selectors must give attention to devising an opening pair more in keeping with that which governed selectors and leaders în 1882, when one of the two greatest of all Aus- tralian XIs operated successfully in England.
In these comments one is not con- tending that Brown may not yet be deemed good enough for inclusion in the team. He may show a revivàl of his form prior to last season. In that case he would be worthy of in- clusion in the team, even if not as opening batsman.
