JOCKEY RACE HONOURS

Mr. D-Black, above, will be with- out a mount in the Queensland Autumn Champions event at to- morrow's 13th Extra, the last race meeting of the year, as a result of
Strathroy being reported unfit.
LAGGARDS HANDICAP: ONE
MILE
THE Thirteenth Extra Race Meeting, to be held to-morrow at the Valley, will ring down the curtain on the 1937 racing season, held under the auspices of the Hong Kong Jockey Club. With the completion of to-morrow's meeting it will mean the end of another year of most enjoyable racing, and I anticipate that the keen interest which has been so manifest among racegoers during the past few more than $1000.00, while "C" Class meetings will again be in full evidence to-morrow, when a good attendance should turn out to wit- ness what will probably be the best racing of the
year.
This event is confined to Austra han subscription ponies of any sea- son that have started in at least one

Tang) and Bear Claw (Mr. D. Black). Other entries will probably include King's Warden (Mr. S. C. Liang) and Soldier of Britain (Mr. H. C. Pih).s
With such formidable opposition in this race we may expect to see a great struggle. The obvious choice seems to be King's Warden, owing to it's win in the Surrey Handicap, for "A Class ponies, from the two mile post.
Bear Claw, however, must not be disregarded as Mr. Black handles this pony perfectly, and I honestly believe that it has more than an outside chance.
On the other hand, there is Wild Life. Take your mind back to the race it won with such consummate lease over the same distance, in the May Handicap, at the Fifth Extra Meeting, and judge for yourself.
I think, however, Wild Life will find King's Warden and Bear Claw just a little too good. Regarding Soldier of Britain, I am afraid it can be left alone. A great race. should ensue, with the result in doubt up to the very end.

In this race, for "E Class China

Messrs. D. Black and S. C. Liang are in the most favourable position, both having scored 22 wins, so that an extra win by either of them will make all the difference. Next comes Mr. H. C. Pia, who has 20 wins to his credit. It will be seen, there- fore, that a very close race for hon- ours will ensue. Mr. S. C. Liang is sure of scoring a win on Gordito, and probably has the best chance of coming out on top.
It has to be remembered, however, that in connection with the three Champions events, post entries are accepted, so that likely starters are not known. My comments are, therefore, based on the presumption that the ponies named will partici- pate:

The first race of the day is con- fined to Subscription Griffins of this season, winners only, and it would appear that a very small field will face the starter
In view of the easy manner în which Gordito, which will again be ridden by Mr. S. C. Liang, walked away with the St. Leger, there is no shadow of doubt that it will be made hot favourite Mr. Liang, knows the capability of Gordito perfectly, and whilst I am prepared to give Coronation Day (Mr. S. W. Tang) a fighting chance, due to the shorter distance, I foresee another win for the former
Shipmaster (Mr. D. Black), Tabby Cat Mr. B. L. Tao) and Yum Sing (Mr. W. G. Poy) will probably be the other three starters Shipmaster came second in the St. Leger, and there is

HANDICAP:
ONE
This is the first leg of the "Daily, Double," and punters are given a knotty problem to solve, especially as the race is confined to novice joc- keys. Owing to its recent demotion from the "B" Class, Tyne (Mr. P. M. Wood) has been allotted top- weight of 168 lbs. and I am ruling it out of the running. 2
Among the other entries, and judg- ling by past results, I look to Soldier lof China (Mr. C. L. Gregory) to- win. If it fails, however, keep an eye on Jungle Jim (Mr. K. I. Ip): to fill first place Commencement Bay (MS 1. Yuen), which has been a source of disappointment to its owner lately, may be worth fol- lowing for a place.

There are not many ponies quali- fied for this event confined to Austra lian ponies. Strathroy, which suf- fered its first defeat this year at the hands of Able Amazon, in the Saugh- ton Handicap, over one mile at the last meeting, has been reported 1 fuit, and will not accept, leaving Mr. D. Black without a mount for this important event.
