London, To-day. REPLYING to a question in the House of Com- mons yesterday on how many official British protests had been made to the Japanese Govern- ment since August 26, the Foreign Secretary said that the questioner would appreciate the distinc tion between protests and representations.

It was difficult to define the dif-1 ference accurately, but he would consider whether he could furnish him with the requested information. The questioner asked if Mr. Eden was fairly satisfied that the Japanese Government was giving these pro- tests the consideration we

should ex- pect them to give.

Mr. Eden replied: "Satisfac tion is an almost unknown senti- ment for a Foreign Secretary" Reuter.
