The following players have been selected to represent the Combined Ser- vices in their hockey fixture against the Civilians:

A. B. MacBride (Navy); Flt. Lieut. Wallace (RAF), Spr. Swanson (RE), L/Cpl Ray (RE), Cpl Land (RE), Lieut. Comdr. Spencer (Navy); Hav← Shak Wali (Rajputs), Lient. Sawal Khan (Rajputs), Lieut. Pritam Nath (Rajputs). Nk. Gepal Ram ((Rajputs) and Partaub Singh (Kumaons).

The game will be played on the Club ground on December 12.

The above team to represent the Combined Services was obviously selected following last Saturday's Army trial at Sookmpoo, but I must say that with the exception of the Naval and Air Force players, the Selectors had a very poor idea of what constituted form good enough to play for the team.

Capt. Stapleton should have se- cured the centre-half berth, while Bdr. Carter, who gave a rousing exhibition last Saturday for Colours should easily have secured, one of the two full-back berths. I cannot really understand Spr. Swanson's selection as he did nothing out- standing or of note to justify his selection.

Then again. Cpl. Land did not play in the trial, but was selected all the same! Something surely wrong here! Lt. Comdr. Spencer is given the left-half berth whereas actually he is a better pivot than either Land or Capt. Stapleton !!!

And Sub Lt. Poalden, of the Navy. is the best leff-half I have yet seen among the Services this season!

Shah Wali, of the Rajputana Rifles, was given the right-wing berth, probably became the inside is Lt. Seval Klizn, of the same unit, whereas on Saturday's display Khu
