Shanghai, To-day.
AN unceasing stream of Japanese re inforcements is pouring into the Shang- hai area where the Japanese are now es- timated to have more than 250,000 troops. This, and the determination with which
they are pressing the drive towards Soochow, which will be the diving off board for Nanking, shows that the Japanese are fighting for a quick end. With the Japanese already at the Yellow River, Nanking will be soon confronted with a new danger attack from the north as well as the south.
The Government is fully alive to the gra-
vity of the situation, and has decided to transfer its offices from Nanking, but all military bureaux will remain in Nanking, which the High Command is determined to defeid to the very last. The fortifications around the army have withdrawn to the south city are being strengthened and bank.
