Lady B. scored the fewest, and her score with that of the ad- miral was 9, therefore the other two scored 4 and 5, while Lady B.'s and Lion's must have been either 2 and 7 or 3 and 6 respec- tively, since she cannot have scored less than 2 with more beast than any of the others.

As Lady B. bagged most beasts she must have bagged at least 3, otherwise the others would have had only each, and there could not thus have been 3 gnu în the bag. As she bagged at least 3. beasts, and scored at most: 3 points, she must have shot 2 hyenas at 1 point each.

We have now to divide 15 points among the others, sub- ject to the following conditions: (1) No man to have more than 2. beasts.

(2) The 15 points to be divided 6, 5, 4, with the 6 to Lion.

(3) 3 gnu to be included, worth at least 6 points.

Lion must have scored his 6 points with 2 beats at most, and had no lion. He cannot get this scored with the lowest possible value for each kind of beast, since this means his bagging 2 giraffes, while Gnu, with at least 1 lion, scored either 4 or 5, and thus cannot have bagged a gnu and left the 3 gnu to one man's bag.

Therefore a lion is worth 5 points, and Gnu must have bag- ged a lion and nothing else.

Now Lion's 6 points must in- clude at least 1 gnu, so his-6 points can-consist of either 2 gnu-at 3 points each, or 1 gnu at 2 points and 1 giraffe at 4 points. But in the fermer case Giraffe eamnot get his 4 points and yet bag 1-gou. Therefore Lion's bag is 1 giraffe at 4 points and 1 gnu at 2 points, and the entry in the -game-book reads substantially as
