CAPTAIN EYSTON DRIVES

THUNDERBOLT AT 309 MPH:UEENS

SECOND RUN MISHAP

Bonneville Flats (Utah), To-day.

The British racing driver, Captain George Eyston, driving his newly-constructed "Thunder- bolt," did a mile run northward yesterday at an un- official speed of 309.6 miles an hour.

HIS CAR BROKE DOWN AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SECOND RUN THROUGH CLUTCH TROUBLE, WHICH WILL TAKE AT LEAST FOUR DAYS TO REPAIR.

Captain Eyston's northward run was done against a slight breeze, so he would almost certainly have smashed the world record had his clutch held out, especially as he was travelling at a speed of 310 miles an hour when he pulled up.

As he had announced he was only trying out the timing ap- paratus, Captain Eyston's speed proved a great surprise.
