for the triennial elections will be held on November 1

Unlike the provincial boroughs, where one-third of the councillors retire each year, London borough councillors offer themselves for re- election in a body every three years. For this reason and because of the large mass of opinion represented in the results, the Metropolitan polls are regarded with great in- terest by the political parties-in- volved.

The following facts convey some idea of the importance of the three- yearly elections:-

Total electorate numbers 2,054,- 971:

Total rateable value amounts to over £50,000,000;

1,377 seats have to be filled by the elections,

At the last triennial elections in 1934, 34.3 persons per 100 voted, as against 313 in 1931.
