JAPANESE CLAIM TEHCHOW'S FALL
Peiping, To-day...
The Japanese military authorities state that when Japanese troops entered Tehchow on Octo- ber 3, a small Chinese force managed to hide inside the city.
After the main Japanese force had resumed its southward advance, the Chinese emerged and occupied the north-west corner of the city walls.
They were discovered here on the morning of October 4, were promptly attacked from both in- side and outside the city and were wiped out after a brief fight.
The Japanese suggest that this alleged inci- dent is the basis for Chinese denial of the loss of Tehchow.
In confirmation of their claim to be occupying Tehchow, the Japan ese state that a delegation from the House of Peers now touring North China, arrived in the city on October 4-Reuter.
