The Shanghai war resulted in the cancellation of the China! National Games and later the In- terport contest, between. Hong! Kong and Shanghai, and it was this latter turn of events which "put the lid on swimming,” for a period.

The Championships have been conspicuous for a lack of support from the better known swimmers such as A. A. da Roza, Lionel Roza- Pereira, Wilfred Lawrence and others, all of whom would have helped considerably to liven up the state of affairs.

THE "COMMITTEE”

D.F. LOPES

D. F. Lopes, above, has been responsible for the majority of the spade-work in connection with the recent Colony swimming champion- ships.

Before commenting further I must - pay a tribute to Mr. D. F. Lopes, Hon. Secretary of the V.R.C., and his Committee for their untiring work and enthusiasm to wards making the Championships as attractive as possible, but I fear that their patience was tried just a little beyond the edge, especially last Saturday night, when late arrivals (swimmers) forced the Committee which used to be the highlights of to switch around several events in the "swimming seasons of old"—all the programme so that a start could they care for nowadays are the In- be made on time or as near to that terports and a chance to secure some as possible.
