APPEAL FOR
RELIEF FUND FOR CHINA Half Million Destitutes Expected In Shanghai
BRITISH AMBASSADOR AND H. K. GOVERNOR TO CONTROL
London, To-day.
An appeal for relief of sufferers in China, sign- ed by many influential personalities, including the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Westminster and the Lord Mayor, appears in all British papers to-day.
The signatories base their appeal, which fol- lows the letter to "The Times" written by the crip- pled South African financier, Sir Abe Bailey, "upon the broad human ground that the conflict is occa- sioning terrible suffering in all forms on untold numbers of Chinese."
The appeal anticipates that Shanghai will have to provide in the near future for 500,000 destitutes, and that Tientsin, Peiping, Hankow, Canton and many other centres are faced with similar problems.
The appeal emphasises that the
resources of British hospitals in NIJINSKT'S NEW
China have been strained to the utmost, despite the hospitals' heroic efforts.
