BELIEVED SEQUEL

TO WHAMPOA AIR RAIDS

All river traffic between Hong Kong and Can- ton was compulsorily suspended this morning, following the action of the Canton authorities in completely blocking the river between Bocca Tigris and Canton.

It is understood that the blockship closing the narrow channel left open when the river was par- tially boomed recently, was sunk at about six a.m. to-day, on the orders of the Fourth Route Army.

No official announcement has been made to ex- plain the action and it is not known how long the closing of the river will be maintained.
