Peiping, To-day.

Heavy fighting still continues on the Hopei front, where the Japanese are slowly advancing along the sector between the Peiping-Hankow "Railway and the Tientsin-Pukow Railway lines, with the Chinese fiercely contesting every yard of ground.

The Japanese forces are divided into five groups, of which two are operating along the rail- way lines, while three others are advancing south- ward on the roads.

After heavy bombardment of the Chinese lines from land and air, the Japanese troops yesterday claim to have captured Fengchiakow, on the rail- way line to Pukow.

On the Hankow line the Japanese, have reached the town of Hainlo, south of Paotingfu.

In addition to a large number of planes, the Japanese are em-" ploying numerous tanks in the fighting in this sector.

As a result of their latest suc cesses the Japanese are nearing the border of Shantung Province.
