PRACTICALLY ENTIRE AT JAPANESE COMMUNITY TO LEAVE HONG KONG
The "China Mail learns that, on the advice of the Consulate, the entire Japanese population of Hong Kong will be evacuated before the end of August.
For the time being, three "camps," the location of which, for obvious reasons, cannot be disclosed, have been established for the concentration of the Japanese community.
The "camps" were suggested by the local au- thorities to facilitate protection measures, yester- day noon being the time limit fixed for all residents to move into the "camps" Throughout the day, Japanese business men and residents were to be seen working feverishly preparing to move their goods.
Pitiful scenes have been witness- ed at the Japanese Consulate dur ing the past two or three days, when weeping women went to the Consulate to have their passports put in order. They wept because they have had to abandon~ their livelihood and sail for Japan with practically no money at all
Over 500 Japanese residents, one third of which were business men have already left Hong Kong, the second batch of over 800 having sailed yesterday by the s.s. Fuku-. kien Maru.
