The combined value of imports and exports in this period totalled $505,300,000, showing an inc of no less than $129,500,000 as com pared with the corresponding jod last year and an incre of |$271,400,000 over the first half of

1935.

In terms of local currency, there- fore, the total visible trade of the Colony increased by 34.5 per cent. in the first half of the year as com- pared with the first half of Inst year, and by 513 per cent, as com pared with the first six months of 1935.

Adverse Bala

The trade balance for the first six months of the present year showed an adverse balance $67,500,000, imports totalling $23 400,000 and

In terms of Hong Kong curren imports of merchandise inc by 34.3 per cent as compared the first half year of 1936, and per cent, as compared with the first half year of 1935; whilst expoz increased by 33.9 per cent. as com pared with the first half year 1936, and 53.4 per cent. as compar- ed with the first half year of 1935.
