DEPORTATION CASE

The Order-in-Council of 1896, under which Sir Edward Stubbs, the Governor of Ceylon, recently ordered the arrest and deporta tion of Mr. M. A. L. Bracegirdle, has been annulled.

In a Proclamation by the Governor, issued in a “Gazette Extra- ordinary," it is stated:

“NOW, THEREFORE, KNOW YE THAT IN BURSUANCE OF THE POWERS IN. US VESTED BY ARTICLE I OF THE PRIN- CIPAL ORDER (OF 1896) WE, THE GOVERNOR OF CEYLON, DO BY THIS PROCLAMATION DECLARE THAT THE SAID PRINCIPAL ORDER HAS CEASED TO BE IN OPERATION IN CEYLON."
