What is regarded in many quarters as de- finite and final indication of Nanking's intention to resist the Japanese in North China was provided yesterday when Central Government troops enter- ed Hopei Province.

News of this sensational development is con- tained in a brief Reuter telegram from Peiping, re- ceived in Hong Kong this morning.

HOLD-UP BY EUROPEAN

A sensational story of a hold-up by a European in the Castle : Peak district was related to the police this morning by a Kowloon Bus Company driver.

He alleges that at 1.45 am when on his way to 261, Castle Peak, where he resides, he was attacked by a European in Un Chau Street, and robbed of a watch and $1.40 in money.

According to his story, the Euro- pean came upon him from under the verandah, struck him until he fell to the ground stunned, dragged him to a nearby vegetable garden and there searched him før -valu- ables.
