JAPANESE TROOPS CAUSE PANIC

Serious Tientsin Accident Averted

Tientsin, To-day.

The Chinese populace of Tientsin were thrown into a panic yesterday evening when 600 Japanese infantry, with-100 cavalry and a motor-cycle section, marched through the main streets of the Chinese City en route to Fengtai.

Believing that the Japanese were occupying the city, the crowds bolt- ed, shopkeepers hurriedly put up their shutters and trams ceased run- ning.

An incident was averted when Chinese militiamen who held up the Japanese troops, were instructed by their commander to allow them pas- sage. Reuter.
