Walton-on-Heath, To-day. Henry Cotton, British Open Golf champion, and Densmore Shute, one of America's finest golfers, were yesterday featured in their unof- ficial match for the world's profes- sional championship, sponsored by the British and United States Pro- fessional Golf Associations for a wager of £500, a side.

Henry Cotton, who staged a sen- sational comeback in the recent British Open Championship, finish- ed two up on Shute at the conclu- sión of the first 36 holes. The se- cond 36 holes will be held to-day.

James Braid, an ex-open cham- pion, and one of the most famous personalities in the sport, acted as referee of the match, on which there is heavy wagering.

Cotton started as favourite at 11 to 8 on, the encounter being watch- ed by 3,000 spectators during the afternoon.

Cotton played some fine shots with his woods, whereas Shute's driving broke down and he would have been three, down at the 36th if he had not holed out from a 10 yarder.

Cotton's

scores for the rounds of 18 were 35 and 3469, while Shute's rounds were 34 and 3771. Shute was two up at the 23rd and one up at the 29th, Cot- ton winning the 32nd, 33rd ́ and 34th to take the lead for the first time in the match at the 33rd. Reuter.

A three and a two on the 19th and 20th heads, enabled M. J. Medina to beat L. Glendinning by 21 shots to 14 in the remaining game.

The Omar brothers entered the Quarter finals of the Open Pairs Lawn Bowls Championship yester- day when they defeated W. Howard and E. Zimmern on the Civil Ser- vice Green by 26 shots to 12.
