FATHERS LEARN "BABY TALK"
Fathers who have learned “baby talk” and how to handle a safety pin.
feel very superior persons these
days.
4
But they have fathers' councils to thank for it.
Salvation Army Sergeant-Major W. H. Wheeler, hon. secretary of the Central Union of Fathers' Coun- |cils, is putting father on a par with
mother in the home.
"We must educate the fathers," he says.
"In homes where father has taken our course, in child management, illness of mother does not result in hardship for the child-
ren.
“Our curriculum includes lec- tures and practical instruction in baby bathing, dressing a child, and cooking.
"For nearly eight years we made no progress, but now, with forty five fathers' councils in England and abroad, we are really get- ting into our stride. The response has been surprising.
"Are the mothers jealous? Bless you, no! They welcome a lighten- ing of their burden."
Beware Of The Dummy
"Try not to use the baby's mouth simply as a parking place for the dummy."
That was the advice given by Dr. Ursula Cox, Medical Officer of the Carnegie Infant Welfare Institute, Birmingham, when she addressed the conference on Maternity, and Child Welfare at British Medical Association House.
