The Italian steamer Madda reported on arri- val here yesterday that she was bombed and raked with machine-gun fire by two Spanish Government aeroplanes off Oran.
Thirty bombs were dropped, causing consider- able damage.
In addition, over 100 marks of bullets are visi- ble on the ship, though miraculously there were no casualties.
The Madda was on the way to Glasgow.from Port Sudan, in the Red Sea, when she was suddenly attacked by the Republican air- craft.

Most of the bombs missed ship by a few yards, only two re- gistering direct hits, both of which, however, damaged the ship's side and let in water. The pumps, how- ever, were able to keep the ship afloat and she limped into Gibraltar under her own steam.
