FRENCH CHATEAU CRIME: ITALIAN AND DUTCHMAN ARRESTED BY SURETE

(SPECLAL TO “CHINA MAIL”)

Paris, To-day.

Events are moving quickly in the investigation into the murder of two prominent Italian anti-Fas- cist exiles in Normandy on Saturday last week.

The murdered men,

Professor Carlo Roselli, and his brother, Signor Sabatini Roselli,

had been the chiew plotters among many Italians exiled for anti-Fascist activities. They were found done to death in the grounds of the Chateau Cou- terne, just outside the Norman watering place of Bagnoles-de-Lorne.

Now the Paris Surete, who have been working feverishly on the case from all angles. an- nounce that they have made two arrests, both foreigners.

The arrested men are

Von Neurath To Make

MARIANO DE GRAZIANO, Special Trip

AN ITALIAN, AND JOSEE HILDESHEIM, A

DUTCHMAN.

The police do not believe either was actively concerned in commis- sion of the crime but believe that the men knew the murderers and may be able to supply vital inform- ation.

PAST HISTORY Graziano is declared to be sought by the Italian authorities, who want him for kidnapping, for which 12-year prison term awaits him.

Hildesheim is also a shady char- acter, having forged a passport and

remained in Paris after having been ordered to leave by the authorities.

To London

LONDON, TO-DAY. THE GERMAN FOREIGN MINISTER, BARON CONSTAN-

TIN VON NEURATH, WILL VISIT LONDON ON JUNE 23 AS THE OFFICIAL. GUEST OF THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT. | :

It is stated that no negotia- tions are under contemplation but it is hoped the visit will offer the opportunity for an exchange of views on matters of common interest to the two countries, particularly the Spanish problem. It is understood that talks be- tween Baron von Neurath and the Foreign Secretary, Mr. Anthony Eden, will also cover the question of a new Western Pact but no im- portant development is expected the police declare to have been poli-beyond mutual clarification of the of British and German points of view.

The Surete also revealed yes- terday that one of the Roselli brothers was shot and the other stabbed.

Discovery of the murder, which

tical in motive since the sum £250 was found on the victims, fol- lowed finding of an abandoned mo- tor-car, in which were a bloodstain- ed glove, an empty revolver cart- ridge case and a large condensed British milk tin filled with gunpowder and fitted with a fuse.

SUBVERSIVE ACTIVITIES Professor Carlo Roselli was the famous Italian anti-Fascist econo- mist, who escaped imprisonment on the Isle of Lipari, Italy's "Devil's Island," in 1929.

Since his escape from Italy, Pro- fessor Roselli, together

with his brother, a well-known historian, had bean carrying on an active anti- Fascist campaign.

BRITISH VIEWS

It is understood that no change has occurred in the outlook of the

Government, which con- tinues to regard conclusion of a Western Pact as the first step towards a general European settle- ment.

The problem of Spain will be one of the chief subjects discussed and it is hoped to learn the German view regard- ing means of tightening up the control scheme and the possibi... lity, of evacuating. foreign volunteers from Spain.
