Sydney, May 6. Royalty has always been asso- ciated with yachting. The Kings and Queens of England have played a big part in its wonder- ful development throughout the Empire. To King George and his son,

the present King, as naval men, this was eminently fitting.

For many centuries the Mon archs of England have favoured the Isle of Wight. There the his toric Cowes' Regattas are held an- nually. The two most notable Royal personages who made yachting his...“ tory by their residences in the Isle of Wight were the present King's great-grand mother, Queen Vic- toria, and Charles I.

Queen Victoria spent many hap py years at Cowes, her residence being the famous Osborne House, which is still well preserved.

Queen Victoria added the Swiss House for the children of her son, King Edward VII. It was after- wards used by King George V and. his family, King Edward VII, be- queathed Osborne House to the na- tion. Part of the magnificent es- tablishment is used to-day as a con- valescent home for officers of the services.

It was King Edward VII who had London, May '8. the famous yacht Britannia built, A NOTE FROM NEW ZEALAND READS:
