TWO EVENTS OPEN TO THE COLONY

TO-NIGHT'S GALA AT NORTH POINT

Weather permitting, the South China Athletic Association will hold their first swimming gala this year incidently the third of its kind this season—at North Point this evening, the programme com- méncing'at 7.30 p.m.

The programme will open with an invitation relay event over 400 metres for men. This will not be a medley competition, but a free- style event. The 150 metres invita- tion relay for ladies will, however, be a medley event.

Visitors this evening will also have the opportunity of competing the 50 metres open race, which will be held separately for men and Jadies.

PAIRS UNBALANCED THE Kowloon Indian Tennis Club suffered a rude shock in their first encounter in the “D”: Divi- sion of the Lawn Tennis League yesterday, when they were beaten at home by the South China Ath- letic Association by the odd set, a feature of the play being the performance of L. Ip and Y. Ip, two youngers of 12 and 14, respectively, who took two sets.

M. S. Khan and M. Ramzan, the latter the K.I.T.C. and Colony Interport hockey goalkeeper, were the best of the home pairs and combined splendidly, Ramzan's powerful driving from the baseline and brilliant net play badly rattling the opposition, while Khan was- very steady.

Jahan Dad and S. R. Salleh were an unbalanced pair and never really got settled, the former being unsteady and frequently net- ting, while his opponent gave him little support.

The drizzle which fell before and during the game made the turf very slippery and the Indian players were better able to find their feet than their opponents.

It was obvious during the game that the Indian pairs had been playing together for some time, as good combination and understand- ing was a feature of their play.
