Although the general expansion shown in the overseas trade returns! for April is, as for some time past, attributable in a considerable de- gree to rising prices, the increase is such as to point to a real and continued improvement in interna- tional trade.

£7,348,674 of the total increase of £9,599,887 in the value of exports of United Kingdom goods last months as compared with April, 1936, is accounted for by exports of manufactures and the cotton and the iron and steel industries show large increases.

Exports of cotton yarns and manufactures in April were valued at £5,855,168, a rise of £1,252,195 over the previous April.

In the first quarter of 1937, 47.2 per cent. of exports went to British countries compared with 48.4 per cent, in the same period of 1936.-British Wireless.
