PUI CHING EXTENDED BY VOLUNTEERS
Japanese Forfeit Points
COLLEGIANS AND SAILORS!
In spite of the inclusion of several
men from the U.S.S. Mindanao, the Pui Ching Aca- demy were fully extended by the Volunteers in their League Base- ball encounter at Caroline Hill yesterday, and just managed, after a very interesting and ex- citing game, to win by the odd run in nine, in the last innings.
But for the loose fielding of the volunteers in the first innings, when they allowed the Chinese to score three
runs the former might have done better. Bowen pitched a great game and rarely did Pui Ching register a hit on him.
The Volunteers' fielding improved greatly in the next inn- ings and they conceded the Chin- ese only one more run in the re- maining five innings.
The Volunteers were in great hit- ting form. Every member of the team connected. On no less than two occasions they had three men on bases, only to fail, at the cri- tical moment, but in the fourth innings they scored three runs and were only one run in arrears in the last innings.
GOOD FINISH Porter, their
manager, then brought in Leonard as a pinch-hit-
and he managed to connect one to right-field and bring David Leo- nard home to equalise. The Chinese scored their winning run in the last innings when Lum came home on a sacrifice hit.
The game between the Nippon Club and Pui Ching was not play- ed as the Japanese objected to the inclusion of American Sailors in the college side, and were prepared to forfeit the game. There
ap- pears to have been some misunder- standing in the rules, and the mat- ter will be dealt with at the next meeting of the Association.
