Extra Race Meeting under the auspices of the Hong Kong Jockey Club will be held to-morrow. The first saddling bell will be rung at 1.30 p.m., and there are altogether nine events on the pro- gramme, the most important of which is naturally the St. George's Plate. Fine favour this meeting, and, with the grass track in such splendid condition, we may look forward to witnessing some keen racing.

In this first leg of the Daily Double," Dr. L. Reidy has two can- didates in New Star (Mr. Y. T. Fung) and Soldier of Honour (Mr. R. Bowden). A win for New Star will inevitably mean its promotion

occasions, then it will have a good ·· chance of winning.

I understand that most of the mounts from the Lan stable will henceforth be entrusted to the care of Mr. P. P. Botelho, whose return to riding after an absence of several weeks will be welcomed by his numerous friends. I regret, however, to Norman Deitz will not be seen in action to-morrow as he has left say that Mr. for Shanghai on business. He was expected to ride Happy Eve in the St. George's Plate, but it is now believed that Mr. L. P. Ralph will be given the mount instead, and that Mr. Benny Proulx has been asked to take out some of the ponies entered by Mr. Eu Tong-sen.

Writing of Mr. Proulx reminds | me of the announcement which recently appeared regarding the loss which he sustained in the death of his Mother, and on behalf of my readers I extend sympathy to him in his bereave- ment.

CHARTERS TOWERS

HANDICAP: SIX FURLONGS. With fifteen "B" Class Australian ponies entered for this opening event, and on account of its short distance, a close and exciting finish should be featured. Since my last notes appeared, I have reason to believe that Just That (Mr. W. H. S. Davis) has come into favour as a potential winner. Mr. Proulx will! have the mount on Racing Heart, and Mr. W. G. Poy will probably be taking out Blandford instead.

. It will be recalled that Blandford acored a meritorious win in the St. Kilda Handicap, but on that occa- sion the distance was longer. Blandford is inclined to be a little slow in starting, and for this rea- son alone I doubt whether it will be able to win again.

With the departure of Mr. Deitz and I am going to suggest Potentate for Shanghai, it is not known which (Mr. Poy) as a possible challenger jockey will ride Courting Eve, but

Mr. Eu Tong-sen's Potentate, seen here leading into the straight, is very lightly treated in weight to-morrow and may cause an upset in the St. George's Plate ("China Mail" photo).

I expect it will probably be Mr. L. P. Ralph. Courting Eve is inclined to be a little slow in starting, and, with the above speedy entries to contend with, I doubt whether it will, succeed.

It was at first expected that Aztec might appear in this event, but I understand that it will pro- bably not accept to-morrow, so that in its absence the finish should be fought out between Gypsy Love, Home Brew and Lancashire Chips. Gypsy Love and Lancashire Chips, winners of the Sydney Maid- en Stakes over the same distance at the Annual Meeting, should com- mand the most support, but Home Brew is in fine form at the moment, and it will not surprise me to see it coming in first.

TAI-MO SHAN HANDICAP: FIRST SECTION; ABOUT FIVE FURLONGS This is the second leg of the "Daily-Double," and Gold Coin looks the likely choice for making the connection. It will be ridden by Mr. H. C.
