V.R.C. TO HOLD CORONATION GALA
A Major Swimming Attraction
ALL CLUBS

BASIS
CHIEF JUSTICE ORIGINATOR
(By "Crawl").
N event of great interest in the local aquatic world will take place on May 12 to commemor- ate the Coronation of His Majesty King George VI., when an International swimming gala will be held under the auspices of the Victoria Recreation Club, and open to the Colony.
The organisers of the gala hope to run it on either an inter- national, or team basis, with one or two individual events for both men and women to break up any possible monotony. I believe I am right in stating that the idea of a Coronation gala originated from His Honour, the Chief Justice, Sir Atholl MacGregor, who is Chair- man of the Club and a very keen supporter of aquatic and other events.
U. S. INAUGURATE BRIGHT TENNIS IDEA
Prize Awarded To Best Girl Sportsman
A splendid idea was brought into practice in the last girl champion- ships of the U.S.A. A prize was given to the girl who showed the best sportsmanship, appearancé, and court manners.
The rules were read to the play- ers at the start of the tournament, and a copy given to each. The trophy was awarded to Miss Dawson, of Piedmont,

California.

support, especially from the many Chinese clubs, while
the support of Y.M.C.A., the Navy and Army is certain.
MANY CLUBS
As far as I can see the following clubs other than the Victoria Re- creation Club should be able to en- ter teams:-European Y.M.C.A., Navy, Army, South China Athletic Association, Chinese Bathing Club, Chinese Y.M.C.A., Chung Shing Civil Benevolent Society, Chinese Servants Swimming Club, Mak Ngah Association, and possibly the Kowloon Swimming Club, if it is revived in time.
I personally think it is a grand Gala thing to hold a Coronation
and can think of no other sport more suitable for cementing the
age.

PUI CHING MAY NOT PLAY
"Last year was one of the most successful and if the typhoon had not interfered and - blown down the matshed we would have now a nice credit balance," said the Mr. W. Muir, President of Hong Kong Baseball League, when presiding at the annual general meeting, held at Hotel Cecil and attended by representa- tives of most Clubs.

In reviewing the season Mr. Muir said that the venue of the games was changed to Causeway Bay last year, and while the ground was bigger and suitable for baseball, it was easi- ly water-logged, and this upset the fixtures, while in order to meet the Pui-ching Academy, sev- eral games had been arranged whenever they were here and this too interfered with the fixtures. Added to this, the typhoon wrecked
when their matshed there were still several games to be played and the season came to an abrupt ending.

LONG SPRINT
Before Medica took the water, the limit men were more than a lap ahead, but Medica's long, gliding stroke took him within 25 yards of the leaders when they turned at 110 yards. The time for 110 yards was
