QUICKSAND RESCUES.

Planks Haul Boy To Safety

Two London railway clerks, Dou- glas Broad, 17, and Sidney. Hard-- ing, 17, who were spending a holi- day at Carisbrooke. Isle of Wight, had a narrow escape at Alum Bay,- near the Needles.

In the summer the gully is full of loose sand mixed with clay, but in winter rain turns the spot into a bog. After wind a dry crust forms on the top and it tappears safe. At some points it would be 24.87n possible for a person completely to

disappear.
