QUICKSAND RESCUES.
Planks Haul Boy To Safety
Two London railway clerks, Dou- glas Broad, 17, and Sidney. Hard-- ing, 17, who were spending a holi- day at Carisbrooke. Isle of Wight, had a narrow escape at Alum Bay,- near the Needles.
They were attempting to climb a gully between the coloured sand! cliffs and the chalk cliffs of the Needles when they were caught in the quicksands.
Harding sank up to his armpits. Broad, after a struggle, reached. harder ground, climbed the cliffs and ran to the Needles Hotel for help.
Mr. H. J. Bicheno, manager of the hotel, stated: "Broad came rushing into the Hotel smothered' in mud. He gasped out, “My friend is sinking in the bog."
