In the House of Commons yesterday Mr. J. Lees-Jones, Conservative member for Blackley, asked whether any recent communications had passed with Japan with the object of securing China's sovereign rights and a free field for all Powers wishing to trade in China.

The Foreign Secretary, Mr. Anthony Eden, replied in the negative...

The Government were, however, satisfied that the Japanese Govern- ment were fully aware of their views.
