LADIES' HOCKEY FOR THIS AFTERNOON
TWO CHAMPIONS V. REST GAMES FEATURED
THE
"Y" MAKE MANY CHANGES
Ladies hockey season officially closes this afternoon when the champions of both the senior and the junior Leagues, meet teams repre- senting "The Rest.”
THE "Y" LADIES, WINNERS OF THE CAER CLARK CUP, WILL OF NECESSITY, FIELD A SOMEWHAT DEPLETED SIDE. MISS EDITH THOMSON, THEIR PIVOT, IS LAID UP WITH MALARIA AND MRS. READ, LEADER OF THE FORWARD- LINE, IS ALSO INDISPOSED.
Fortunately Mrs. Gardiner, (Miss Sybil Dalziel) is back in the Colony and is available for her old berth, at inside-right, and Mrs. Slater, the most promising back in the second team, and Miss V. Bradbury, one of the finest forwards in the junior League, can be called upon to complete the side.
Several positional changes are being made. Miss Anne Fowler, skipper of the team, will fill an unusual role at centre-half, and she will be replaced in the full- back division by Mrs. Slater. Miss Olive Dalziel takes over the leadership of the forwards and Miss Bradbury fills the vacant right-wing berth.
These changes are probably the best that can be made under the circumstances, but I am afraid that "y" are going to sadly miss the services of two such vital players as Miss Thomson and Mrs. Read, who both fill key positions.
The "Rest” team is a particular- ly powerful combination and in- cludes no less than eight Inter- porters, including the entire inter- mediate-line which did service in the last game with Shanghai “y” Ladies will doubtless give a good display, but can hardly be expected to win. In any event, this match should prove a fitting climax to an eventful season.
NOT SO STRONG
Miss Anne Fowler, above, repre- sented the Colony in the ladies' hockey Interport against Shanghai at left-back. Owing to the illness of Miss Edith Thomson, she will figure in the pivotal position for the "Y" Ladies, Caer Clark Cup League winners, against "The Rest" this afternoon.
The fine record of the Central British Schoolgirls in the Brawn Cup Competition this season has been due, in no small measure, to the fine form shown by the Booker sisters. Miss Maureen, left, play- ed for the rest of the Colony against the Shanghai Interport team.
EASTERN MEET KOWLOON CHINESE TO-DAY
TSUI AH FAI NOT AVAILABLE
THIS AFTERNOON
WING TO THE COMBINED OPERATIONS, LEAGUE FOOT- BALL THIS WEEK-END IS PRACTICALLY AT A STAND- STILL AND THE ONLY GAMES THAT WILL BE PLAYED ARE THOSE IN WHICH THE EASTERN ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION, WHO ARE MAKING AN ENDEAVOUR TO COMPLETE THEIR FIXTURES BEFORE APRIL 22 WHEN THEY LEAVE FOR MANILA, ARE ENGAGED.
To-day Eastern will meet the Kowloon Chinese who have been displaying very poor form recently, and Eastern should have no difficulty in securing both the points.
The Kowloon Chinese will be fielding their regular team though it was expected that Tsui Ah-fai, the All-China pivot, who has returned to Canton from Shanghai, would be playing. He will not be available.
In spite of the fact that the Kowloon Chinese forward line is composed of four of last year's Athletic attack, it has done nothing of note recently and in the last few games was very poor in its finish- ing, though approach and passing was good.
