R.AS.C. IN ARMY CUP SOCCER SEMI-FINAL
Coldstream Guards
Outplayed
BEAVER SHINES IN GOAL
(By PHILISTINE)
London, February 19. On an excellent surface for drib- bling at the Buller Barracks | ground, Aldershot, the RAS.C Training Battalion qualified for the semi-final of the Army Football Cup by a well-deserved victory over the 2nd Coldstream Guards by 3 clear goals.
The big guardsmen fought hard, the backs tackling keenly and kick- ing strongly and Abbott, the right- half, making strong efforts to get the forwards going. But they were outplayed by the R.A.S.C.
Great goalkeeping by Beaver, a player with a keen sense of posi- tion, kept the clever R.A.S.C, for- wards out in the first half when Sadler and Davies both made good attempts to score. The game had barely restarted when Watson got a good goal after a strong run on the left wing.
GREAT GOAL
Sadler should have added to the lead when the referee awarded a penalty against the Guards for hands, but he shot straight at the goalkeeper. He made amends soon afterwards by scoring a great goal. Although surrounded by opponents he coolly trapped the ball and gave Beaver no chance with a smashing drive. Watson scored the third goal shortly before the finish.
All the R.A.S.C. forwards played well, but their task was made easy by the great support they got from Stewart, Gray and Owen--especial- ly the last-named, who was the most polished half-back on the field.
