RUBBER'S
SHARP RISE
Quota Committee's Decision
London, To-day
The International Rubber Contr mittee at yesterday's session raised the export quota for the second half- year of 1937 to 90 per cent. of the standard-quota, and fixed the date for the next meeting as April 27.
The price of crude rubber imme-- diately rose by a halfpenny per lb.
The prevailing opinion is that the decision can scarcely reduce the present shortage since no greatly increased shipments can arrive in.. Europe before next August.
AMERICAN POSITION.
As American consumers have not been buying lately and their stocks are running low, the view among dealers is that prices are likely to- rise still further when the Ameri cans are compelled to enter the mar- ket again.
Speculators accordingly bought heavily, thus causing the rise.
Forward prices for July/Septem October to 12 3/8d.-Trans-Ocean. ber delivery rose to 12 3715d and
HIGHEST SINCE 1929 Following the announcement of. the Rubber Regulation Committee, the spot price of rubber advanced to 12 d. per pound, which is the- highest since March, 1929. On the stock Exchange, there were
sub-- stantial rises in rubber shares. British Wireless.
