LYEMUN GO DOWN GLORIOUSLY
One of the best junior foot- ball games this season was wit- nessed at Causeway Bay yester- day afternoon when the En- gineers and Lyemun met in the replay of their Junior Shield Semi-Final Round tie, and re- sulted in a win for the Sappers by the odd goal in seven, in a -game packed with thrills and excitement, and which produced football of a standard rarely at- tained in the Second Division.
Lyemun gave an amazingly im- proved display and though defeated, went down gloriously. Three times they took the lead, but only held it for a brief space..
-Glenn Cunningham, famous track star from Kansas, again “won the Wanamaker Mile in New York City, at the 30th annual running of the Millrose A. A games. It was his fourth win of the famous trophy. He is here shown having a nice, cold drink out of it.
Both teams were tinder strength Rapier's
Callard being, absent from the En- gineers' team, while Sparkes was an absentee from the Gunners'
team These absentees forced Hurst to take the outside-left posi- tion, in the Sappers' team, and Knight to take the pivotal position Race in the gunners' team.
FINE SPIRIT
While there can be no denying that the Engineers fully deserved Race their win, the Gonners must be commended on the magnificent dis
play: they put up. They went in-
to their task wholeheartedly and

games.
Davies was outstanding in the Race Gunners goal.
Winstanley and Baker, the backs, covered each other confidently throughout the game, and were sure in their hefty clearances but in the latter stages of the game, were not too comfortable against the short-passing tactics of the Engineers.

KNIGHTS HARD WORK In the pivotal position, Knight accomplished much useful work. He had the unenviable task of marking three of the fastest for- wards in junior football and it is Race pleasing to note that none of the goals could be traced from the centre. In the latter part of the game, he moved to the centre for-
ward position where he made his Face presence felt so much that the Sap- pers were on the defence for a
greater part of the game.
Another Lyemum player who re vealed good form was Boyle, centre-forward. He after opposing defence in diffic plied his wingers with fine
