In a speech in which he explain- ed and defended the Government's proposals for the amendment and extension of the special measures of rehabilitation already applied! to regions where particularly se- vere unemployment, obtains, the Minister of Labour, Mr. Brown, was able to announce in the Com- mons a number of hopeful deve- lopments along the line which the Government is hoping to encour age, namely, the establishment of the new lighter industries, offering a broader basis for employment.

Sugar Quota To Go

Amsterdam, To-day. Abolition of the import quotas for unrefined and white sugar into the Netherlands is expected to be announ ced within a few days.

The quota system was introduced in November last year for a provisional period of six months, with the object. of preventing the accumulation in the Netherlands of unduly large stocks of sugar-Trans-Ocean.
