SWISS FRONTIER DEFENCES

New Credit For Fortifications

The Government's decision strengthen the Swiss frontier tifications was yesterday approve by the Council of State.

The Director of the Military De- partment declared that tests of the defences in recent manoeuvres had produced thoroughly satisfactory results.

He also announced that the Fe- deral Council would ask Parlia- ment to grant the sum of 20,000,000 | Swiss francs for strengthening the defences in the course of the pre- sent year.

He then explained that the new fortifications would be entirely up Ito date.

Total amount spent on new for- tifications will be 51,000,000. Swiss franes and the credit now demand- ed by the Federal Council is the second instalment of this sum. Trans-Ocean.
