PONIES CHAMPIONS, WHEN IT CLIPPED A FIFTH OF A SECOND OFF ITS OWN 1 MILES TRACK MARK TO BEAT ELECTRON BY FIVE LENGTHS AND THUS WIN THE $1,700] STAKES.
IT WAS WHISPERED THAT GYPSY LOVE, WINNER OF THE ROOTY-HILL DERBY IN NO UNCERTAIN MANNER, HAD BEEN DESCRIBED BY MR. D. S. LI AS THE BEST AUSTRA- LIAN, PONY HE HAD RIDDEN. HENCE L.C.L'S CANDIDATE HAD A BIG FOLLOWING, BUT, AFTER IT HAD BEEN POSI- TIONED SECOND TO STRATHROY UNTIL 100 YARDS FROM THE POST, WHEN IT WAS OVERTAKEN BY ELECTRON, IT SPEED FAILED TO EQUAL STRATHROY'S REMARKABLE AND STAMINA.
