THE CHINA MAIL, FEBRUARY 26, 1937.
In spite of speculation now raging in the United States as to whom will represent them in the Davis Cap contest, last year's four comprising Wilmer Allison, left Donald Budge, right, Gene Mako, top
centre, and Bryan M. "Bitzy" Grant, bottom centre, are again serious contenders for the position.

JOHN OAKES INCIDENT
HAS SEQUEL
INQUIRY ASKED BY CHARLTON CAUTION WHICH WAS RESENTED
(By "The Twelfth Man")
London, January 30.
More is certain to be heard of the incidents arising out of the Coventry City v. Charlton Athletic Cup-tie regard- ing the conduct of the referee, Mr. P. Snape, in refusing to allow the Charlton trainer to come on the field and attend to John Oakes, who had been knocked out when heading the heavy ball.
Instead, the referee attended to the player himself and was just about to re-start the game when he turned to the player and cautioned him for ungentle- manly conduct presumably in the belief that Oakes was sham- ming injury.
A caution for such a reason has probably never been known before, and the Charlton club felt so strong- ly on the matter that they immedi- ately reported it to the Football: Association and asked for a com- mission of inquiry to be appointed. AWAITED WITH INTEREST The FA went into the matter and instructed the referee to let them have his version of the affair. When this had been received, the Charlton club were informed that a letter would be required from the player. All the evidence is now with the Football Association" and the findings are awaited with in- terest.
The Charlton club strongly ob- Grandlject to what is an allegation of dishonesty on the part of their play- er, and John Oakes himself feels Miller, (Walwyn), Royalį Mail (Williams), Drinmore Lad (Mor the position keenly.
