CHAOS REIGNS IN TEST CRICKET SHOCKING CONDITIONS IN MELBOURNE

Melbourne, January 16. SERIOUS accident or loss of life at the exit gates of the Melbourne Cricket Ground were avoided only by good fortune, during the third test, says the building inspector of the Health Department (Mr. S. F. Serpell), in a report to the Commission of Public Health.

Conditions in the outer stand, Mr. Serpell reported, were chaotic and shocking. He criticised strong- ly the seating and sanitary arrange- ments at the ground, and recom- mended that admittance should be by ticket, and that the gates should be closed when the ground was full The commission decided to bring Mr. Serpell's recommendations be fore the safety and health regula- tions.
