WRIDE'S ABSENCE SURPRISES

(By "REFEREE")

Providing the weather keeps fine, some very fine soccer should be seen at Caroline Hill next Sun. day aftemoon, when the Hong Kong Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation will be at home to the Hong Kong Football Association in the First Round of the Gover nor's Cup series.

The Chinese team will be repre- sented by the whole of the South China “A” Zeam, with the excep tion of the right-wing berth, which will be filled by Yeung Shui-yick, of South China"B" and a poten- tial Interport player.

team The Association selected some time ago, but I do not concede them much of a chance on Sunday.

Incidentally, this match is real- ly in the nature of the Colony's one and only Interport trist, and the outcome should be very inter- esting in view of the fact that there are several schools, of

thought as to who should fill the centre-forward berth, one being 1467 for Lee Wai-tong, and the other 15.45 for D. Knox, of Kowloon.

They Pick Themselves

Several of the positions in the 17.25 Interport team are more or less 17.75 certainties, among these being the 17.80 right and left-backs-Lee Tis- 20.00

REPLY TO "SCOTTIE

HALF-BACK ERROR

REVEALED?

To The Editor, “China Mal"} Sir-May I take this oppor tunity, through the medium of your sports columns, to reply to "Scottie's" selections for the cor ing Interport soccer match against Shanghai

He seems to have made a very |careful study of form and i admit that I cannot find fault with the actual selection of his forward line, which comprises Yeung Shuf vick, Fung King-cheong, Lee Wai» tong, A. Wilson and B. L. Bickford, but I am afraid that I must take exception to his following re- marks, and particularly the one that the substitution of Leonard for Fung King-cheong would not - weaken the team. I think I need not go further than to say that Leonard is not in the same class as Fung' King-cheong.

Further, -1- disagree entirely with his suggestion that Cazupbell, of the Rides, is worthy of selec tion. Campbell, in my estination His not to the same class as either Beltrao, or Pardoe, the Isat great, Service hall back,

Bliss is certainly not worthy of a pince the team on recent Førn. A half-back should be able to distribute as well as "spoil" in the manner of tackling, and in this respect I humbly suggest that Büss has only one of these sitzi- bates Furthermore, if any player Ishould really be given an oppor tunity in the half-back-lise, he should be Evans, of the, who has been one of the ing figures: In Baturday ⠀ Lea Soccer.
