TWO OTHER MEMBERS OF THE CREW, INCLUDING THE CHIEF OFFICER, A CHINESE, AND THE ALLEGED ASSAILANT, CAPTAIN CAMPBELL'S CABIN BOY, WERE FOUND LYING ABOARD IN A CRITICAL CON- DITION WITH BULLET WOUNDS IN THE BODY WHEN POLICE BOARDED THE CRUISER ON HER AR- RIVAL IN HARBOUR FLYING DISTRESS SIGNALSS. The cabin boy, it is alleged, first shot down Captain Campbell and then Chief Officer Chiu, and then turned the weapon upon himself.

ALLEGED CONFESSION

Cause of the tragic affair has not yet been determined, but it is understood that the alleged assailant, before relapsing into unconsciousness, confessed to the shooting and indicated that he bore a grudge against the Chief Officer. Stories of members of the crew suggest that the boys ran amuck. He fired two shots at Captain Campbell and two at the Chief Officer, all from pointblank range.
