Alleged Smuggling Activities
BRIBERY SUGGESTION
A trip across the Channel from France to England with a cargo of whisky was described by 題 former policeman at the Mansion] House recently when two men ap- peared on remand on SummODBES allering evasion of duty on whisky.
The men were James William Sizeland Coe. of High-street. Walton-on-Thames, and Reginald William Alfred Leaf, of New Cot-i tages, West Thorney. Emsworth, Hants.
There was a further Summons against Coe alleging that he was concerned in removing uncustom- ed goods.
The case was opened at the pre- vious hearing by Mr. B. M. Stephenson, when two other men. Eric Gohrt and Percy Vernon Knight, who pleaded guilty to imilar summonses, were sentenced to three months' hard labour and three months in the second division
espectively.
Coe and Leaf, who pleaded notį. guilty, were defended by Mr. Laurence Vine.
