UNION CHURCH CONCERT

Pleasing Array Of Talent

NEW SOPRANO INTRODUCED

TO HONG KONG

A soprano

RO

new to the Colony was introduced to the Hong Kong public at the concert given Tuesday evening at the Kowloon: Union Church Hallunder the auspices of the choir of the church. Miss E. Turner _contri- buted altogether four songs to the programme; two of them being

encores.

It is enough to say that i at one step she has placed her self at the very forefront of so- prano soloists in Hong Kong. Miss Turner has the voice, the techni que and the musical knowledge necessary. Her ton is pure, her! delivery effortless. She should be very much in demand by local musical societies who require in a soloist the ability to sing some-i thing more than ballads. We looki forward to hearing her very often in the future.

The other soloist at the concert was Mr. Victor Sanders, who was. in good voice and sang with his customary skill and confidence. His pleasant baritone greatly pleased the audience, and he was also called upon to contribute two

The secretary of the Mid-Sus- sex Chess League has received complaints of slow play in matches.

His reply is that captains should impress upon teams that although quick play is to be de- precated, they should "try to play at a reasonable rate.”
