LONG TENURE OF OFFICE TO COLONY'S BENEFIT

WORLD WAR IN 1937 PREDICTED

Amazing predictions embracing such calamities as wars, earthquakes and other upheavals the world over, and also the future of Hong Kong and China were made by Madame Lails, the famous seeress, who is at present on a short visit to the Colony en route from Java to the United States and, finally, Europe.

Madame Laik gave an interview yesterday to the. "China Mail" at the Gloucester Hotel, where she has taken a suite, and amongst other things she predicted the future in connection with His Excellency the Governor. She said that His Excellency will have a longer term of office here in Hong Kong than any of his! predecessors, adding that "his new method which he is introducing now will satisfy all and result in great improvement, economical- ly and socially."

London, To-day.

The contention that the Spanish civil war is the outcome of the Soviet infnence in Spanish zhairs is contained in a Porta- guese Note to the non-intervention committee, replying to the charges by the Soviet of Portuguese infractions of the non-inter- vention agreement. The Note claims that the USSR methodi- cally prepared the revolution and built up in Spain a vast or- ganisation supplied “with rich means for propaganda and action.” In support of this contention the Note alleges that M. Bela Kun, the famous Communist, arrived in Barcekna in March with | other Soviet agents. It further alleges that the Soviet Ambassa- der to Spain. M Rosenberg, is the “hidden spirit”, behind the Madrid Government, and even participates in Cabinet meetings.

The Note is regarded in diplomatic circles mainly as a state- ment of the attitude of the Portuguese. Government.
