POSSIBLE MEASURES HINTED AT

GREAT POWERS ASKED FOR "CLEAR ANSWER' POSSIBLE SUPPLY OF ARMS TO MADRID GOVERNMENT

· “CHINA MAIL" SPECIAL

Moscow, To-day...-- Aking and strongly-warded article appears in yesterday's semi- Pofficial Irvestio, which deals with the non-intervention question, speaking of the "preposterous.comedy” played at the London Dan- interventioncommittee's meetings. The greatest disappoint ment is expressed in the attitude. of England and France, and a "clear answer” is demanded.

In the same article the paper hints at measures which the Soviet Government will take in ease its demands are not fulfilled... In the latter case one would have to make the assumption that the non-intervention committee had ceased to exist, and the Madrid Government had therefore again acquired the right to buy arms.

A. Burgos message states that the fortification of Madrid is already well advanced, according to a message broadcast by the War Minister, which states that it will be completed within 2 few days.--Machine-gun and heavy artillery emplacements have been made in accordance with most modern methods and are commanded by foreign officers.

Eleren inhabitants of the capital; concludes the broadcast, were shot-during-the last few days because they refused to par- ticipate in the erection of the fortifications.
