"NOW THANK WE
ALL OUR GOD"
RELIEF EXPRESSED IN PALESTINE
PRESS REACTIONS TO ARAB KINGS INTERVENTION
Jerusalem, To-day.
The hymn "Now Thank We All Our God" played on the carillon from the Y.M.C.A. belfry, reflected the general feeling of relief that the strike has ended. The Grand Mufti personally at- tended the opening of a number of shops inside the old city.
The rulers' appeals and manifesto are echoed variously in the press. The Arabie newspapers are frankly jubilant at the Arab Kings' intervention, the newspaper Al Difos declaring that the royal pledge resembles the Balfour Declaration, while Al Lixa expresses the belief that the British Government approved of the final text of the Arab-Kings" appeal, thus establishing a preces dent for the rulers' future intervention on behalf of the Pales tine Arabs.
The Jewish press believes that the test of the Arab higher committee's influence will be provided only if terrorism ceases. The Jewish papers stress that the strike ended in failure because it did not stifle the Jewish economic life, which is claimed to have progressed during the strike, including the absorption of 18,000 new Jewish immigrants.

Notwithstanding the foreign problems with which she is en-} gaged, China is doing her own defensive and constructive work. The 18 provinces of China Proper will be divided into four differ- ent, spheres under the control of four Governor-Generals. It is understood that the German Note in no way suggests RACE ROUND THE that Germany is anxious for a modification of the Anglo-German Naval Treaty, but certain non-British naval circles are apprehen-{ sive lest the German criticisms may be a prelude to the request for such a revision if the concessions to Russia are not altered.
