All the Blantyre strikers have returned to "the surface of their own accord. They were carried to their homes by a cheering crowd of 5,000 people--Renter.

A message received on Satur- day stated that while representa- tives of mine-owners and miners had met in London under a nu- tral chairman in an endeavour to settle the South Wales miners' dispute, a threatening situation had developed in Lanarkshire, where about 50 men were involved! in a stay-in strike at William Di-i xon's pit at Blantyre. Already 4,500 miners had struck in sym- pathy, and it was feared that the strike would spread to the whole county.

The miners' organisations had not organised the stay-in strike, but when the management declin- ed to permit food to be sent down) to the strikers their colleagues A doctor descended ceased work. the pit to examine 14 men report- ed to be iil, and when he returned to the surface he stated that the men refused to leave their com rades. In the past year the Labour Front has paid out about $7,000,-| 000 marks for pensions and relief, although the contributions to the Labour Front are smailer than those paid in former years to the Trade Unions.
