London.

One of the reasons why Mír, A. |S. de Mello, secretary of the Board of Cricket Control, India, is now in England is to arrange an extra tour of India by an English side during the winter of 1937-8, states the "Manchester Guardian.”

The purpose is to provide In-} dian players with further experi ence befort the next visit" of an M.C.C. team, and Mr. de Mello's hope is

that a fairly good team; • Cas be persuaded to "undertake | such a tour, possibly captained by | Lord Tennyson or Sir Julien Cahn.

The tour would last only two ori three months, with visits to most; of the important cricketing cities and States, but there is no idea of playing Test matches.

The Cricket Club of Ladia have); begun the construction of a

stadium thoroughly modern Bombay capable of holding 36,000 spectators, of whom 12,500 can be

This will be ready by the winter WOOD TROPHY

of 1937-8, and will be the ground for all important cricket, tennis, and hockey matches. There is to be a swimming pool, a "centre court" for lawn tennis, squash rackets courts, and a clubhouse with an excellent dance floor.

MRS. JARRETT'S SUSPENSION UNJUST

Honolulu, September 5.

DUKE P. Kabanomuku, a member of the 1912,

1920 and 1924 United States Olympic games swimming teams and at present Sheriff in Hono- lulu, took time off from his police duties here to enter a vigorous criticism of the handling of the 1936 American squad in Berlin.

Condemning the suspension of Mrs. Eleanor Holm Jarrett, world's record holder in several swimming events, and two boxers because of asserted violation of training rules, "the Duke” com- mented: "I am beginning to wonder if our Olympic team was hooting for the Athletic or officiating championships over there in Germany. It looks like they're more interested in the latter. The Hawaiian, who is listed as one of the greatest swimmers of all time, had no patience for "pompous athletic directors." "After 25 years of participation in amateur athletics, and close contact with athletes and officials. I suspect that there is one thing the world can get along without-prominent amateur athletic officials. Duke said.

"As a rule they know but one) thing that's their own great importance in their own eyes. PROBABLE Athletes make the Olympic teams what they are without the help of dignitaries wearing official badges. Any man or woman making the American Olympic team is no chump; he

or she is a champion.

Prompting Not Needed Champions are made through

hard and intelligent work, rigid self-knowledge and self- discipline. They know just how far they can and should go in training, and no official need prompt a champion to work and win.”—United Press,
